Oh, it had its tropes—straight guy falls for gay guy, for one—but it danced around the typical “fated mates” trope and made it a little more original, although I think the basic idea was the same, as that is a hugely popular cliche. There was no mpreg, ABO, mating bites, or knotting, which was very unique. Most werewolf romances have at least one of these, but I guess the fated mates was enough for its gay werewolf card ;) The romance was pretty much the whole plot; don’t expect a mystery or even a thriller subplot. I was a little bored by that, but it’s similar to most contemporary romances, so can’t complain too much. The MCs were ok, not that original, but not gargoyles. Over all, this is a promising start to a new werewolf series. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2021 )
- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Sue -- Nope. No. : I went in blind. New to me author. It sounded interesting. I was wrong. There is something seriously wrong with this book for me, but it's hard to put my finger on it. Internalized homophobia? It has it. Some weird misogyny? That too. Dated in a way that makes no sense ? Absolutely. All that on top of basic inconsistencies. The plot was a little boring, the conflict was non existent, Scott could not have been a more one dimensional and just a jerk overall. Is all this super hash? Am I seeing something in this book no one else has? Could be. But there is no way I could walk away and not say something. I'll leave you with a line from the book - "he craved him like a bored housewife craves chocolate" ( Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2021 )
